The objectives of this local initiative were to raise the level of awareness about ADHD and its comorbidities in schools, among parents and teachers, and the public at large. This was achieved by organizing the following events. These events were sponsored by an unrestricted educational grant from Jansen Ortho Canada Inc. and Shire BioChem., Eli Lilly Canada, Casino Windsor Cares. This was an exciting and innovative year as the ADHD Awareness Committee partnered with The Learning Disabilities Association of Windsor Essex County to offer a state of the art two-day workshop entitled, LD, ADHD a lifetime of success. Please see our website at www.adhdwindsor.com for the workshop presentations. Schedule of Events September 13, 2007 Living with ADHD Movie at First Baptist Church. This event was well attended by church members, and members of the Black community September 19, 2007. Book Reading, Elijah of Buxton, by author Christopher Paul Curtis at the Central Public Library. This event was extremely well attended and children were bused from various local school. Over 360 children attended. Thank you Kay and Chris. September 26 &27, 2007. 2 Day workshop LD/ ADHD a Lifetime of Success. This was a major accomplishment of our committee. There were local and international speakers, who are leaders in the field of ADHD. Please see www.adhdwindsor.com for complete workshop details. We would like to thank the volunteers, the Learning Disabilities Association and our sponsors, for making this event a reality. About 100 persons attended the conference. Media Coverage.
This was indeed an exciting month to raise awareness about ADHD and Learning Disabilities in our community. It was tremendously rewarding to see the support of Local School Boards, especially the Special Education Departments, Children’s Mental Health Agencies, The University of Windsor and Dr. Tam Doey.
